Power up your essential circuits using a 5,000-watt generator (continuous watts) during a power outage or emergency. It accommodates 8-to-10 household circuits like your furnace blower (gas only), refrigerator and kitchen circuits, well pump, lights, and television. If your needs change, your installer can easily expand this transfer switch to up to ten circuits just by adding more circuit breakers. The enclosure can be surface mounted indoors, and allows hardwired or plug-in generator connections. Because it was designed with off-the-shelf circuit breakers you don't have to search high and low for replacements, and your installer can reconfigure the breaker combinations to suit your family's needs. Braeker switches have a fixed current carrying capacity July 26, 2010 Arvind Shah The switch has two 30A circuits. I need two 15A circuits instead. All switches are fixed. I can't change them. I have to add extra fuse or sub panel for that. They should be replaceable.

The shipment arrived on schedule and in good condition. It was well packaged. The directions were fairly simple to understand and complete. The transfer switch is well made and after completing the wiring, works perfectly. I would recommend this GenTran to anyone.

The thoughtful design and completeness of literature with this product made it the perfect solution to hooking up my generator to the house with absolute safety, and I could do it myself.

I bought this switch panel as part of my emergency generator system that I was self-installing in my house. My setup has the generator permantly installed in an enclosure behind the house, with the feed hard-wired to the transfer switch, no plugs, so I can't really use the "kit" version that includes the cord and external box. After reading the specs and reviews here, and talking to the very nice people at GenTran, I bought this panel.
When I received it, it was impressed with the overall packaging and construction, but soon it became apparent that this panel wasn't going to work for me. What is not clear in the specs is the configuration of the breakers in the panel. It is true that this panel can use off-the-shelf breakers (it comes with Siemens breakers installed), but the problem is the way the 20A 2-pole breaker is installed. It is parts of a "quad breaker", in a pack installed in the lower right portion of the panel, which means there are 4 breakers tied together, they can't be separated. I also only needed a 15A 2-pole breaker for my well pump, so this would mean that I would have to take out 4 breakers and throw them away, and then buy another quad breaker to replace it. I was only able to find these breakers in a few places on-line, and they were very expensive ($50-80). This didn't make sense, so I returned the panel, and bought model 301660 instead.
If the configuration of the provided breakers works for your house, then this is a good choice for a manual transfer switch. The cabinet itself is rather small and cramped, so it could be a challenge to get all the wires routed. I also really don't like the blue plastic "smurf tube" conduit provided, I used an offset connector for my installation (I posted a photo on the review I did for the 301660). The instructions were very basic, there are better instructions on the GenTran website that you can download. I was also surprised to find they included a block-off plate for the L14-30 plug if you want to hard-wire the feed instead.

Amazon drops the price $50 [..] a month after I buy it, great.... still a good transfer switch kit, blue smurf pipe conduit is cheesy and probly won't pass code for exposed wall mounting, but the box itself is excellent, much better design than other brands, and if you need to change/rearrange breakers to suit, they are not hard to find. Only complaints on box itself are that the quad breaker used for "Gen In" and 2 branches out had 15 amp breakers for the branches, would prefer 20s since this is one breaker that can't be swapped, and if you could remove it, these quad breakers aren't readily available, also.... how about a freakin' 3/4 or 1" knockout in the back to run romex into? I pulled 75' of 8/4 from a remote power inlet box, ran it external in conduit from attic to punch into wall in bedroom closet where house panel is..... I don't like drilling holes into boxes full of wire! A knockout on the backside (directly behind the frontside gen cord plug) would've saved me a good 30 mins and $60 for drill bit. All in all, a good box, my installation was probly not average.... if my house panel was in the garage and could have run 25' cord directly to transfer switch, it would have been a 3-4hr install. If I didn't add breakers or change out the smurf pipe, would saved another 2 hrs.
