5 out of 5 stars MY NEW GENERATOR   March 3, 2010
Denise M. Rodgers (VAN BUREN AR.)
I BOUGHT THIS GENERATOR FROM AMAZON.COM ' IT WAS SHIPED TO ME
PEOMPLY. THE FIRST TIME I USED IT FOR 5 HOURS STRAIGHT RUNNING
A CEMENT MIXER AND A MASONARY SAW. IT IS WELL WERTH THE MONEY.

5 out of 5 stars It does not take 1qt. of oil - it takes 0.63qts.   November 13, 2009

I just got mine and there is one thing that I want people to know before putting oil in it. There is a little piece of paper that you might pull out and read telling you to put about a quart of oil in before running the generator. DON'T DO IT.

The manual states that the XP4400 takes 0.63 quarts of oil. This is no where near a full quart that is stated on a separate piece of paper included with the generator. I read the little piece of paper and put in about 7/8 of a quart just to end up draining a bunch off.

Otherwise, the generator seems pretty good. I started it right up and it wasn't hard to pull start. The wheel kit makes it easy to move around.

oh yeah, one other thing. It comes with a couple wires with alligator clips on the ends. It took me a minute to figure out that the wires were for the DC output. Makes it easy to connect the DC to a battery.

The unit worked alrite for one weekend of camping. Wanted to use it a couple weeks later and found that the float was cracked. Power Max customer service was horrible. I asked what they would do to correct the situation of a 3 week old faulty unit. They said they could not replace the float I would have to replace the entire carb which they would send me. I explained to the service dept that I needed the generator for a caming trip in 4 days and asked them if they would send it next day mail. They said no.. I would think that a company would stand behind their goods a little better, guess I was wrong. I am expected to wrench on this thing and not be compensated by a next day delivery of the needed part. They know once the unit is purchased via Amazon it cannot be returned to them, its the customers problem.

DO NOT PURCHASE one of these Chinese knock offs of a Honda... You will more than likely regret it as I do. The only saving grace is I may have found a replacement float from guess where...... A Honda dealer..zzz.

Regards..

1 out of 5 stars Buyer BEWARE!   July 11, 2009

I bought this item Aug. '07 mainly to run on my fifth wheel. Since it's purchase I've used it maybe four times for a total of about 12 hours. On a hunting trip it quit putting out power. After returning from the trip I checked the brushes which appeared to have worn unevenly. I called and ordered a new set ($12.00 w/ shipping). After installing the brushes it seemed to be putting out power. Took it out on a camping trip this fourth of July. At the camp the voltage regulator burned out. Ordered a new regulator ($55.00 w/shipping). Installed the regulator and got no power!
Took it to a shop for diaganosis ($65.00) turns out the stator is bad (tech said it was a piece of junnk!) checked on the price of a new one..$250.00 plus shipping and labor @ $65.00 an hour! These things are pieces of junk made in china with inferior materials. Thought I was getting a good deal (paid $375.00) but got ripped off. Shop around and do your research. These generators are sold under a couple of other brands but with the same inferior material and a very poor guarantee. I know I will be more cautious as I search for a new genertor. STAY AWAY FROM THESE!!

We had to use it one night and we plugged in our two sump pumps our neighbors sump pump and our fridge and used a power strip, and it barely used gas in three hours.
