| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The GEN4000B's rugged frame and sturdy construction are designed to survive and perform. The GEN4000B 4,000 watt generator from Blue Max Direct is serious insurance against a power outage. Whether your boat or RV needs a boost, or you live in a storm-prone area, this generator will keep the lights on and the heat running through almost any situation. Tough, rugged, and long-running, the GEN4000B easily powers large appliances like refrigerators, freezers, ovens, and well-water pumps; and it's ideal for construction components, too. Saws and air compressors will function with smooth, reliable ease when they're powered by the GEN4000B. Always remember to check the wattages listed on your tools or appliances before using this generator in conjunction with them.

generator August 24, 2010 muggsy Great item for the price and for the use camping. May not last as long as the more exspendsive ones but it does the job for what i needed it for.
Cheap but will do the job August 4, 2010 Matt Good: Starts easily, plenty of power for my travel trailer, relatively quiet (compared the American-made gens), good on gas, good value. I had it running nearly all day and night for 6 days. I even left it out in the rain when running. No problems.
Bad: Eats oil. I had to top off the oil with every tank of gas because it goes low and triggers the auto shut-off. The quality of the bolts and metal is typical Chinese. I had to loctite the bolts on the wheel kit because if you tighten they will break and undertighten them they will vibrate loose.
Great Generator-Great price-Well built. May 20, 2010 Kelly D. Cox (Bloomfield, NM) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am pleased with the workmanship of this product. I didn't have any problems mentioned in other reviews. Packaging was great for starters, filled the thing with oil and gas.
I was sitting on my stool looking it over I grabbed the rope and gently pulled and it came to life on the first easy pull, choke is in a good spot and had no problem with the pulling of the rope even though it is behind the metal plate, I had planned to do like one guy did and drill a hole in that plate for easier pull but I don't believe it to be a problem after all. Seems much quieter than I expected too. For being new it started on first pull which amazed me to no end. I believe the price is fair also. I am glad they included the adapter plugs also. Thanks Amazon for another great product. I didn't like that there is only one picture of this great generator on the web so I will be uploading pics of it soon after our camping trip this weekend. Also the pic shown is incorrect, the pull cord is mounted different than mine.

An economical choice February 28, 2010 Robert B. Jerard (Durham, NH USA) As I write this, the Blue Max generator has been running for four straight days since the high winds took out power for most of southern New Hampshire on Feb. 25, 2010. It does what it's supposed to do and has paid for itself by keeping my basement from flooding by providing power to my sump pump. I suggest spending another $300-400 to hire a licensed electrician to put in a transfer switch so you can conventiently use this to take care of your refrigerator, lights in the living room and bedroom. Had I to do it over, I would opt for a unit with 220volts to run my submersible well pump.
You need to buy a wheel kit. This unit is too heavy to move around conveniently. The directions that come with it are terrible (were written by someone in China using a chinese/english dictionary.) Write your own directions for the starting process and tape them to the unit in sealed baggie. Keep a can of starting ether around if you have trouble getting it going.
Get a Better Wheel Kit at Harbor Freight January 31, 2010 ZERB (Eliot, ME USA) Purchased this unit, unpacked it and found no defects as written in previous reviews. Purchased a wheel kit from HARBOR FREIGHT [...]. It is designed for a 13 hp unit, so it is much more robust than the suggested wheel kit. The HARBOR FREIGHT kit is not an exact fit, but with drilling -4- holes in the generator frame, I find works extremely well supporting this 6.5 hp Blue Max generator.
